GA1 Competent Person

Under Health and Safety ( HSA& HSE ) guidelines, employers must ensure that all lifting equipment – such as forklifts, telehandlers and reach trucks –Excavators, Loader’s – Lorry Mounted Cranes - Chain & Hook Loaders, MEWPS etc., can be used safely and without risk of injury. 


To comply. that means having both the lifting and driving mechanisms inspected at least every 6 months or 12 months as part of a Thorough Examination in line with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998). 

Are you experienced & competent with plant & machinery?. 

Are you interested in becoming an accredited GA1 inspector. 

On successful completion of our course, you will receive an accredited 5 yr certificate of competancy. 


Training can be carried out at your own premises.

Course Information

Who needs to attend?

Anyone who is required to use or supervise ATV equipment

Prerequisites

Must be over 16 with 6 months verifiable experience for 1 day course


Duration

The expected duration of the course is 1 day however this may vary due to factors like experience levels, modules or attachments selected or the ratio of Instructors to Learners

An ABA accredited  HSA recognised certificate will be awarded to all who completes the course successfully.

End of course

By the end of the course

    

    

  • comply with legal requirements, with an emphasis on safe practice
     
  • identify the risks associated with using a sit-astride ATV
     
  • select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
     
  • understand the main causes of accidents
     
  • identify the controls and components
     
  • understand the functions of all the instruments
     
  • carry out daily checks as indicated in the manufacturer's operator manual
     
  • carry out appropriate pre-start checks
     
  • identify and report any faults
     
  • carry out an on-site risk assessment and plan the route
     
  • identify loading and towing capacities.
     

 

With the following options to: 

  • operate the ATV safely on a variety of slopes and terrain
     
  • carry out a failed hill climb
     
  • demonstrate active riding
     
  • drive with loads and/or trailed equipment
     
  • load and secure vehicles for transport on the road.
