GA1 Competent Person

HSA machinery inspection requirements dictate that all work equipment must be safe, suitable for its intended purpose, and regularly maintained, with risk assessments carried out in accordance with the 2005 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act. Employers are responsible for ensuring that lifting equipment undergoes statutory "thorough examinations" conducted by a competent person. Additionally, all machines should have functional guards to prevent entanglement or injury. 

To comply with these regulations, it is essential to have both lifting and driving mechanisms inspected at least every 6 to 12 months as part of a Thorough Examination, in line with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998). 

Examples of lifting equipment include Forklifts, Telehandlers, Teleporters, Reach trucks, Excavators, Wheel Loaders, Lorry Mounted Cranes, Chain & Hook Loaders, MEWPS, Chains, and Slings.
