Power Pallet

Course Details

Powered pallet truck training provides operators with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate electric pallet trucks, commonly used in warehouses, retail environments, and distribution centres for moving goods over short distances.

A typical training course includes:

  • Introduction to the equipment – understanding the controls, functions, and limitations of powered pallet trucks
  • Pre-use inspections – checking the condition of the truck, including wheels, forks, and battery
  • Safe operating procedures – starting, stopping, steering, and manoeuvring safely in confined or busy areas
  • Load handling techniques – correctly lifting, transporting, and lowering palletised goods
  • Understanding stability and balance – including the role of the centre of gravity in safe operation
  • Workplace hazard awareness – identifying risks such as pedestrians, slopes, and uneven surfaces

Importance of Proper Training

1. Accident Prevention
Although smaller than forklifts, powered pallet trucks can still cause serious injuries if used incorrectly, including collisions, foot injuries, and load-related accidents.

2. Legal Compliance
Employers must ensure operators are trained and competent under legislation such as the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.

3. Safe Load Handling
Training ensures that loads are handled correctly, reducing the risk of tipping, shifting, or falling goods.

4. Protection of People and Property
Proper use minimises the risk of damage to stock, equipment, and infrastructure, while maintaining a safe environment for workers.

5. Improved Efficiency and Productivity
Trained operators can move goods more efficiently and confidently, contributing to smoother workflow and reduced downtime.
